This is sure a welcome to development to a lot of Instagram users who have experienced one form of harassment or the other while sharing their photos and videos.
With the new update on the app, users can be able to choose the type of comments that appear under their photos and videos when shared. It allows you to ban certain words, phrases or emojis you deem offensive.
According to The Washington Post, you will be allowed to turn off the comment section completely if you choose to.
Talking about the new development, Instagram public policy chief, Nicky Jackson Colaco, said accounts on Intagram with "high volume threads", have slowly started benefiting from the update as others will, eventually.
Our goal is to make Instagram a friendly, fun and, most importantly, safe place for self-expression,We have slowly begun to offer accounts with high volume comment threads the option to moderate their comment experience. As we learn, we look forward to improving the comment experience for our broader community.
Though a lot of people feel that such an upgrade will take away the fun of the app, many can't wait for it.
