President Goodluck Jonathan’s convoy was on Tuesday, January 20, attacked by political thugs in Katsina State.
Jonathan visited the state, along with his entourage, as part of a tour for his re-election campaign.
The trouble was said to have started when the President’s convoy made its way to the home of former President Umaru Yar’adua’s mother for a courtesy visit.
The attackers were reportedly holding brooms, a
symbol of the opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC), and
were chanting “Sai Buhari”, showing their support for the APC
Presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari who is from Katsina.
The youths launched an assault on Jonathan’s convoy after the visit and
pelted the cars with stones but were dispersed with tear gas by security
operatives.
Another group of anti-Jonathan youth were also said to have demolished a
newly erected campaign billboard of the President in the state
